Ralph returns to wreak havoc in the first trailer for Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Disney Animation got another hit under its belt in 2012 with the release of Wreck-It Ralph. Starring John C. Reilly as the voice of Ralph, the animated movie took a deep dive into the arcade world, but more specifically, the unknown connected universe the games shared. The first film was praised for its concept and execution, leaving many wanting to see another adventure with its characters.

Disney is making those hopes a reality with a sequel slated to hit theaters later this year. Featuring a voice cast that sees Sarah Silverman (Vanellope), Jack McBrayer (Felix), and Jane Lynch (Calhoun) return, with Taraji P. Henson (Yesss) joining the fun this time around, Wreck-It Ralph 2 also boasts an entertaining concept. Many have wondered what Ralph’s internet adventure would look like, and they don’t have to wonder any longer.

Disney debuted the first trailer for Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 today. The trailer marks the first official footage to come from the sequel, elaborating on the premise – and delivering on the promise of Ralph breaking things once again. Here is the official synopsis:

    “Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2” leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet – which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet – the netizens – to help navigate their way, including a website entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making website “Buzztube.”

For a first trailer, this does exactly what it needed to do. The relationship between Ralph and Vanellope was the heart of the first movie, so keeping them together and the focus is smart. The interplay hasn’t changed at all, but thats a good thing. It also sets up what the sequel will be about effortlessly. There’s no wasted time re-establishing life at Litwak’s, with the duo immediately jumping into the internet. Once they are there, the results appear to be very promising.

One of the earliest shots once they do visit the internet establishes just how big it really is, with several websites up for visitation. Directors Phil Johnston and Rich Moore clearly know what they want to achieve here, and have even creatively implemented pop up ads.

This is however devoid of any real story points. We knew Ralph and Vanellope would go online, but there’s not even a single glimpse at what Felix and Calhoun are up to. Those details should come in future trailers (as even the above synopsis doesn’t divulge much), and we know there’s more surprises in store too. Marvel and Star Wars characters will be appearing, as well as every Disney princess. But, since this is just the teaser trailer, it was never going to reveal all of that.
